Gerber Scientific Inc. Receives On-Demand Innovation Award from Axeda

Gerber Scientific Inc. was awarded the Axeda On-Demand Innovation Award for rapid deployment success within the first year of the launch of GERBERconnect, a proactive monitoring and remote service program that dramatically shortens response time for customer issues. Using Axeda’s on-demand platform and applications, Gerber developed and deployed GERBERconnect™ in Aug. 2009. Within six months of launch, the company reduced field service visits, improved first-time fax rate by five percent and resolved issues to avoid downtime.
Gerber utilizes technology from Axeda Corp., in Foxboro, Mass., to collect and analyze data as well as deliver it remotely. “We know about a problem sometimes before our customer does,” says Mark Hessinger, executive director, worldwide customer service for Gerber. “We recently saw a customer struggling on our system, so we contacted him and walked him through the issue until it was resolved.”
GERBERconnect indicates the status of Gerber’s hardware and software systems and generates warnings if the system slips from its prescribed data ranges. The system also provides Gerber with a benchmark of optimal machine operation. The best-practice benchmark can be replicated from plant to plant. “We have a customer in China with 23 cutters who wanted to better understand benchmarks on cutting systems,” says Hessinger. “When they discovered we had significant insight into these best practices, they were quite excited.”
