Virtek Vision Introduces New Products for Prefabricated Construction Industry
Waterloo, Ontario, October 9, 2007 - Virtek Vision International Inc. [TSX: VRK], a leading developer and provider of high-value industrial laser solutions, today announced that it is launching several new products and enhancements to serve its customers in the prefabricated construction industry. The new offerings introduced at the industry's annual Building Components Manufacturers Conference (BCMC) trade show are:
- LPS7-H laser projector with replaceable green laser module;
- Virtek TrussLine 5.0; and
- A color-coding option for the Virtek I-Joist Processing (VIP) System.
"We have developed and are introducing these new products and enhancements as the result of discussions that Virtek has had with our customers. Each of these is expected to improve the productivity and effectiveness of our customers and should therefore prove to be very welcome additions to our broad product line offerings," said Bob Sandness, President and Chief Executive Officer.
LPS7-H Laser Projector
Lasers, like light bulbs, burn out after a period of extended use. With the patent-pending LPS7-H projector, customers will be able to do their own replacement of the laser rather than sending it back to Virtek. No special wiring or tools are required and the unit is self aligning. This reduces downtime, improves efficiency, and reduces the cost of ownership.
The LPS7-H joins the LPS7 family of laser projectors that Virtek first launched into the Aerospace industry. The patented design of the LPS7 family is built on a common platform that doubles projection speed, optimizes thermal management, and provides better power filtering for improved reliability. The projectors include on-board diagnostics indicators and are completely sealed to withstand harsh work environments.
LPS7 projectors are available with either a directly modulated Diode Pumped Solid State (DPSS) green wavelength laser or a red wavelength diode laser. The LPS7-H projector, with replaceable laser source will initially only be available with a green wavelength laser.
Virtek TrussLine 5.0
Virtek TrussLine 5.0 provides customers with an advanced, user-friendly platform to increase productivity and improve projection system efficiencies. This software package builds on earlier versions of TrussLine and includes integration with automated jigging systems and improved production planning. With TrussLine 5.0, Virtek has built in a number of advanced functions that allow its customers to save even more time and money.
The new advanced functions include Real-time Production Tracking that enables supervisors to easily determine how well each jig is performing against the set standard. Based on the current rate of production they can see how many board feet have been produced and determine if the target for the shift will be met. Simultaneous Customizable Projected Menu Icons act as a time-saving remote without the need for additional hardware. As soon as the truss work package starts up, operators can control a job from the set-up table, eliminating costly back and forth time from the computer workstation. Using retro reflective material, operators can project locations of all truss joints and connector plates, project text, go to the next truss, load new jobs, and activate automated jigging pucks. The projected menu icons can be activated onto more than one jig at a time. The menus are also customizable by the user using a simple configuration aid.
TrussLine 5.0 also features an advanced reporting function using an SQL database. Reports will be easier to generate and read, printer-friendly, and will include detailed truss production information for each jig and each shift. For fabricators with multiple laser systems, the reports can be consolidated into one database.
Color-coded Option for VIP System
Virtek first launched its Virtek I-Joist Processing System at BCMC in October 2005. The VIP system automatically cuts, routes, and marks engineered wood products in one step. Users can manufacture ready-to-assemble joists faster and more accurately with less waste using less manpower. An operator can program workflow or it can run off a design program. With minimal computer skills and training required, the VIP System software guides operators through the whole process without extensive staff training.
The VIP System allows multiple jobs to be loaded at the same time. The new five-color coding option will allow users to load and easily identify five jobs at once. This option speeds the sorting of multiple jobs as the user can identify at a glance which order a job belongs to without having to read the markings.
Software automatically optimizes material usage by combining joists into the same run for greater throughput and less waste. The system comes with an inkjet marker for identifying joists by part number, job number, length or any other marking the user requires.
The VIP System can process up to 2,500 linear feet an hour and can handle lengths of up to 60 feet. With a powerful 10HP motor and 20" diameter saw blade, it can effortlessly cut joists up to 3.5" x 16". With the VIP System's add-on router unit, service holes can be cut into engineered wood I-joists at the same time as the cross-cutting. This results in a dramatic saving of time - both in the preparation of I-joists, and again during the on-site installation. Users can cut circles, squares, rectangles or ovals of any size with the knock-out left in place or removed. A 10" hole is cut in approximately 10 seconds.
